Disciplined Students – Delighted Servants

“DISCIPLINED STUDENTS – DELIGHTED SERVANTS”

By: J.Farrell Fisher, July 21-22, 2017

You are aware, I’m sure, of how the Jews in Jesus’ day were well-trained in Jewish traditions, yet the majority of Jews in Jesus day were the ones who participated in or ordered Jesus’ crucifixion! They “heard” the Word, learned certain “truths” about it, but never read the heart of God or His eternal purpose in and through Christ Jesus as revealed in both Old Testament prophecies and New Testament realities!

Acts 4 is an important chapter as I seek to lay the foundation for this message! It says in Acts 4:1-12, Now as they (the first, new disciples!) spoke to the people, the priests, the captain of the temple, and the Sadducees (“Sad-you-see”, refusers of belief and trust in Christ as Lord and Savior!) came upon them, being greatly disturbed that they taught the people and preached in Jesus the resurrection from the dead.

And they laid hands on them, and put them in custody until the next day, for it was already evening. However, many of those who heard the word believed; and the number of the men came to be about five thousand.

And it came to pass, on the next day, that their rulers, elders, and scribes, as well as Annas the high priest, Caiaphas, John, and Alexander, and as many as were of the family of the high priest, were gathered together at Jerusalem. And when they had set them in the midst, they asked, “By what power or by what name have you done this?”

Then Peter, filled with the Holy Spirit, said to them, “Rulers of the people and elders of Israel: If we this day are judged for a good deed done to a helpless man, by what means he has been made well, let it be known to you all, and to all the people of Israel, that by the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, whom you crucified, whom God raised from the dead, by Him this man stands before you whole.

This is the ‘stone which was rejected by you builders, which has become the chief cornerstone.’ (Psalm 118:22). Nor is there salvation in any other, for there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved.”

Would YOU say that these early fishermen who became followers, disciples, servants of Christ, as “disciplined students”, didn’t simply “practice” the Faith, but lived it out in and through their availability to the Indwelt, Ruling, Reigning, King of kings and Lord of lords, who made, by His mercy, grace, and love, their physical, forgiven, blood-washed bodies into His Holy Temple and Heavenly Hospital of saving, healing, delivering, re-birthing needy souls as His earthly presence, to continue touching a needy world around YOU with His Holy Presence IN YOU AND THROUGH YOU?

“Disciplined students” are not the ‘well-trained’ in biblical principles but the “well-served, finished with themselves, only offering their bodily presence for Christ to be Himself in them and through them”! I don’t know of a more hypocritical thought than one who believes, “How grateful God must be to have me on His team since I am the great performer of Christ-likeness!” It’s not performance but Christ’s Presence that must be our testimonies: “Christ in us, Christ through us,” as Paul instructed us about the ‘mystery’ in Colossians 1:26-28, saying, “the mystery which has been hidden from ages and generations, but now has been revealed to His saints (Those who are “set apart”). To them GOD WILLED to make known what are the riches of the glory of this mystery among the Gentiles: which is CHRIST IN YOU, the hope of glory. Him we preach, warning every man and teaching every man in all wisdom, that we may present every man perfect IN CHRIST Jesus.”

How ‘shocked’ were you when you read and re-read John 2:23-25? Now when He (Christ Jesus) was in Jerusalem at the Passover, during the feast, many believed in His name when they saw the signs which He did. BUT Jesus did not commit Himself to them because He knew all men, and had no need that anyone should testify of man, FOR HE KNEW WHAT WAS IN MAN.

Our Lord and Savior explained in John 3:16-21 the Lord Jesus said: “For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him (trusts in, relies upon, adheres to, fully surrendering all rights in one’s self and full trust in Who Christ is and what He desires to do through you) should not perish but have everlasting life.

For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through Him might be saved. He who believes in Him (trusts in, adheres to, relies upon) is not condemned; but he who does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.

And this is the condemnation, that the light has come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil. For everyone practicing evil hates the light and does not come to the light, lest his deeds should be exposed. But he who does the truth comes to the light, that his deeds may be clearly seen, that they have been done in God.” (Do you think that this just may be why Paul said what he did in 1 Corinthians 15:31, “I DIE DAILY”?)

And didn’t Paul add in 2 Corinthians 1:9, “Yes, we had the sentence of death in ourselves, that we should not trust in ourselves but in God who raises the dead”?

Christ Jesus knew what was in those early disciples, and He still reads men’s hearts today as if they were wide-opened books for all to read! He didn’t commit Himself to those ‘partial believers’ who assumed their ‘fleshly bodies’ were worthy of His blessing and forgiveness – but Christ Jesus turned THEM away!

“Disciplined Students”? Luke 14:25-33 speaks of Jesus telling the great multitudes (!!) who followed Him, turning to them and saying to them, “If anyone comes to Me and does not hate his father and mother, wife and children, brothers and sisters, yes, and his own life also, he cannot be My disciple. And whoever does not bear HIS CROSS and come after Me cannot be My disciple.

For which of you, intending to build a tower, does not sit down first and count the cost, (Have you truly been seated before Christ, determining the cost of full surrender unto His Lordship, AND have YOU taken the sentence of death unto yourself that His Resurrection Presence will be manifested in YOUR mortal flesh?”), whether he has enough to finish it – lest, after he has laid the foundation, and is not able to finish, all who see it begin to mock him, saying, ‘This man began to build and was not able to finish’? Or what king, going to make war against another king, does not sit down first and consider whether he is able with ten thousand to meet him who comes with twenty thousand? Or else, while the other is still a great way off, he sends a delegation and asks conditions of peace. So likewise, whoever of you does not forsake all that he has cannot be My disciple.”

Paul made a highly interesting and convicting statement in 1 Corinthians 7:35, saying, “And this I say for your own profit, not that I may put a leash on you, but for what is proper, and that you may serve the Lord without distraction.” DISTRACTION? How many examine the true faith and only see Jesus ‘wanting slaves to Him’ when in reality He passionately longs for “servants”. He said of Himself, “I didn’t come to be served, but to serve and to give my life a ransom for many.” Christ Jesus was a “foot-washer, not a pew sitter”! Christ Jesus was a servant, not a ‘slave driver’! Christ Jesus WAS the sacrifice, not a proud, self-centered, cruel ruler demanding your unrelenting devotion to, often, an earthly king’s insane demands on his citizens! But consider the “distractions” of imitators, of “professors” of a faith that omits, or overlooks repentance toward God and faith ONLY in Christ’s Resurrection Presence within their “blood-washed” hearts and minds and surrendered wills only to His Lordship!

In 1 Corinthians 9:19-23 the heavenly blessed, humbled Paul, wrote: “For though I am free from all men, I have made myself a servant to all, that I might win the more; and to the Jews I became as a Jew, that I might win Jews; to those who are under the law, as under the law, that I might win those who are under the law; to those who are without law, as without law (not being without law toward God, but under law toward Christ), that I might win those who are without law; to the weak I became as weak, that I might win the weak. I have become all things to all men, that I might by all means save some. Now this I do for the gospel’s sake, that I may be a partaker of it with you.”

You’ll find it very interesting that Paul also said in Hebrews 10:39, “But we are not of those who draw back to perdition, but of those who believe to the saving of the soul.” In fact, earlier, in Ephesians 6:6, he said, “not with eyeservice, as men-pleasers, but as bondservants of Christ, doing the will of God from the heart…”

There are those who have drawn back to perdition! There are those who are ‘man-pleasers’, not servants DOING THE WILL OF GOD OUT OF THE OVERFLOW OF THE HEART OF CHRIST IN THEM!!! There are those who are religious, strong-willed, intense imitators, who pat themselves on their backs about their ‘devotion to the Christian ‘church-faith’, but in their innermost being are the award winners of ‘play-acting’ by their best efforts and know nothing about “crucified with Christ” and “raised by the convicting, converting power of the Holy Spirit” to prepare YOU to be His earthly, home-outreach in ministering in you, to you, and through you!

Follow Paul in 1 Corinthians 2:1-16! “And I, brethren, when I came to you, did not come with excellence of speech or wisdom declaring to you the testimony of God. FOR I DETERMINED not to know anything among you except Jesus Christ and Him crucified. I was with you in weakness, in fear, and in much trembling. And my speech and my preaching were not with persuasive words of human wisdom, but in demonstration of the Spirit and of power, that your faith should not be in the wisdom of men but in the power of God.

However, we (Paul and the early Apostles) speak wisdom among those who are mature, yet not the wisdom of this age, nor of the rulers of this age, who are coming to nothing. But we speak the wisdom of God in a mystery, the hidden wisdom which God ordained before the ages for our glory, which none of the rulers of this age knew; for had they known, they would not have crucified the Lord of glory. But as it is written:

“Eyes has not seen, nor ear heard, nor have entered into the heart of man the things which God has prepared for those who love Him.”

But God has revealed them to us through His Spirit. For the Spirit searches all things, yes, the deep things of God. For what man knows the things of a man except the spirit of the man which is in him? Even so no one knows the things of God except the Spirit of God. Now we have received, not the spirit of the world, but the Spirit who is from God, that we might know the things that have been freely given to us by God.

These things we also speak, not in words which man’s wisdom teaches but which the Holy Spirit teaches, comparing spiritual things with spiritual (like: “You are not your own but have been bought with a price, even the shed blood of the Lamb of God!”). But the natural man (unbeliever, ‘sinner’, captive of Satan!) does not receive the things of the Spirit of God for they are foolishness to him (while in 1 Corinthians 3:19 Paul declared under the anointing of the Holy Spirit, “For the wisdom of this world is foolishness with God!”); nor can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned (emphasizing Jesus’ words in John 3:19-21, “And this is the condemnation, that the light has come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil. For everyone practicing evil hates the light and does not come to the light, lest his deeds should be exposed. But he who does the truth comes to the light, that his deeds may be clearly seen, that they have been done in (and through) God.”), Paul continuing in 1 Corinthians 2:15-16, But he who is spiritual judges all things, yet he himself is rightly judged by no man. For “who has known the mind of the Lord that he may instruct Him?” BUT we have the mind of Christ,”

And true disciples wait upon the guidance and leadership of the Holy Spirit in the Spirit’s witness through us, not impulsive, self-directing ‘believers’, but vessels through which the Holy Spirit honors, guides, and glorifies Christ through us!!!

I ask YOU: “Are YOU a “disciplined student AND a delighted servant” living in the light of the glow and glory and submission to Christ’s Resurrection Presence IN YOU? By Christ’s precious blood He purchased through His cross the title deed to ownership of your life – He bought you out of Satan’s bondage and your sinful nature ownership to be “A Child of the King”! Have you “bid farewell” to your old self-controlled life to submit yourself to the sovereignty of “Christ in you”, to the King of kings and Lord of lords? If so, why not “walk in Him, your only hope of glory, blessing, and never-ending satisfaction if His precious, eternal Presence?
